dc.description.abstract | The journalistic work of Josep Pla cannot be understood without the context of his commitment to the landscape where he was born and the people who speak his language. From an early age, Pla expressed his commitment to Catalanism, convinced that any work as a journalist had to be starting done from an idea of the country which permitted him to write at the service of a group and, at the same time, to promote the critical spirit of its members. In this sense, and as opposed to what he called “the Spanish type of newspaper”, he demanded combat journalism, unashamedly subjective, based on the Italian model of Corriere della Sera. In contrast to the most brilliant writers of his generation, the evolution of his journalistic work not only was not truncated by the Civil War, but rather drew strength from the disaster to improve to the point of reaching its full potential. | eng |
