| ca |
dc.description.abstract | The news about the Spanish Civil War had an enormous impact on Latin American and Caribbean society. This led to political and cultural disputes that would mark the public debate throughout the Hispanic world. In the Puerto Rican case, there is no exhaustive study of the chronicles on the Spanish Civil War written by Puerto Ricans. The authors, witnesses of the Peninsular War, occasionally sent their work to some newspapers on the island or published it in book form once they returned. These chronicles were written by brigade volunteers, students, doctors, politicians, editors, and artists. Nowadays, these documents are scattered in newspaper archives and in out-ofprint books that are not easily accessible. It is essential to reconstruct, examine, and typify this scattered memory because, unlike other Latin American countries, the Puerto Rican press did not send war correspondents to Spain. | ca |
