Actividad turística y política territorial en la región del Ática

Abstract

La región del Ática y el área metropolitana de Atenas, en particular, representan en la actualidad el motor socioeconómico de Grecia. En efecto, desde que Atenas fuera declarada capital del Estado Griego Moderno en 1834, la región se ha caracterizado por un gran dinamismo y la paulatina concentración de poderes, bienes y servicios. No obstante, dicha evolución ha tenido como consecuencia profundos cambios territoriales y medioambientales en la región causando así un significativo deterioro de los recursos naturales del Ática. Dicho fenómeno de degradación medioambiental, a escala regional, ha perjudicado la calidad de la experiencia turística limitando así su capacidad de atracción como destino. El presente artículo Actividad turística y política territorial en la región del Ática tiene por objeto analizar los diferentes recursos territoriales del Ática en relación al desarrollo turístico así como la propia evolución del turismo en la región, tanto desde el punto de vista de la demanda como de la oferta de alojamiento. El último apartado está dedicado al análisis de las iniciativas públicas en relación a la protección medioambiental de la región y sus efectos sobre el conjunto del Ática como destino turístico.

The region of Attica and the metropolitan area of Athens represent nowadays the socioeconomic motor of Greece. In fact, since Athens was declared capital of the Modern Greek State in 1834, the region has been characterized by a great dynamism and a gradual spatial growth of powers, goods and services. Nevertheless, the evolution of this trend has had in consequence deep environmental and territorial changes in the region causing a significant deterioration of Atticaʼs natural resources. This phenomenon of environmental degradation, at regional scale, has damaged the quality of the tourist experience limiting its capacity of attraction as a tourist destination. The main goal of this article entitled Tourist activity and territorial politics in the region of Attica is to analyze the different regional resources of Attica relating to the tourist development as well as its own evolution in the region, from the perspective of the tourist demand as well as the accommodation supply. The last point is dedicated to the analysis of the public initiatives related to the protection of the environment in the region and its effects on the whole Attica as a tourist destination.
